dc.description.abstract | This briefing provides evidence regarding vulnerability to COVID-19 across 479 national regions and 40 countries of sub-Saharan Africa, mapping simultaneous deprivations (poverty, food insecurity, employment, natural disasters, disease) so that COVID-19 policy responses are able to encompass different levels of vulnerability. This overview focuses on the joint distribution of three COVID-19 risk indicators from the global Multidimensional Poverty Index (MPI). These are nutrition, drinking water, and cooking fuel. Some clusters of high-risk areas also span national boundaries and require regional approaches. Overlapping deprivations amplify the risk of fatality if a person contracts COVID-19. | en |
