This evaluation presents analysis and outcomes of Collaboration for Health Systems Analysis and Innovation (CHESAI) over the past five years. It focuses on the drivers of change within the field of Health Policy and Systems Research (HPSR): researchers, teachers and policy makers. Overall, less than 0.02% of total health funding is spent on health systems research in low and middle income countries. CHESAI aims to expand and strengthen the African health policy and systems knowledge base through harnessing and consolidating health policy and systems expertise at the Universities of Cape Town and the Western Cape in South Africa.en
