dc.description.abstractThe paper examines specific dimensions of inequality, in terms of gender, caste, education, region, occupation and other factors relevant to labour market inequalities. It studies economic and social relationships responsible for these cleavages, while considering conceptual and methodological issues that also need to be addressed. Economic research has tended to overlook structural differences, leading to particular econometric valuations that reflect overall distribution in statistical terms, rather than underlying economic or social structures. Inequality in work is not only about wages. It is also about the conditions under which work is performed.en
