Inadequate power in the informal sector poses a severe growth obstacle to all categories of firms. Proprietary firms encounter capital shortage while large firms are constrained by non-availability of raw materials. Enterprises managed by women are more likely to decline. Businesses located in rural areas are vulnerable to raw material and labor shortage, recovery of loans, marketing problems and competition from large firms. This study investigates the growth barriers of informal sector enterprises in India.en
