Results-based financing (RBF) as an alternative to national health financing systems shows a weak level of sustainability due to many factors. In terms of this pilot project in Mali, while some gains could be sustained (investments in long-term resources, high compatibility of values and codes, adapted design to implementation contexts), other intended benefits could not: end of investments; lack of shared cultural artefacts around RBF; loss of different tasks and procedures; the need for more ownership by local stakeholders. This in-depth report observes a lack of sustainability planning, and few critical events associated with phases of sustainability.en
