Trends in regional climatic variability were assessed in terms of water availability and main water consuming activities. Analysis indicates there is no alternative for the development and implementation of comprehensive climate change policies and appropriate adaptation strategies. The agricultural sector, as the largest water consumer needs to modify current water management practices towards sustainability.
