Canadian scientists have teamed up with collaborators in Africa to develop a series of vaccines to combat a number of livestock diseases. Infectious disease has a great impact on livestock production and livelihoods in Africa. Two thirds of producers are women who manage less than 10 animals; however, loss of even a single animal has major impacts on the welfare of the family unit. Diseases targeted by a new combination vaccine include lumpy skin disease of cattle; sheep and goat pox; African swine fever; peste des petits ruminants (PPR); and rift valley fever.en
