| dc.description.abstract | This research support project seeks to act as a first step in promoting public debate and influencing public policy on the issue of the protection of personal data in Latin America. We intended to take this path by identifying knowledge based on academic research and disseminating the information obtained about the links between the current state of protection of personal data and certain sorting processes that negatively impact participation of individuals in public life. At this early stage the project focuses on two countries: Brazil and Mexico and focuses three areas: a) national identification documents, b) video surveillance in public spaces, and c) Internet. It also provided the contextual research needed to develop a full-fledged research project that would target specific activities of personal data collection and available policy-windows in the region. Complementing the research activities, the project consolidated a new academic research network in the region focused on issues regarding personal data. | en |
