In order to fully understand the dynamics of crime and crime rates in the context of Patna, several factors are important to consider: as with other slum settlements, factors of communal violence and the communalisation of politics are prevalent. Importantly in Panta, however, caste also emerges as factor. Researchers find that in the state of Bihar, social and political life are organized around the institution of caste, and that this impacts the organization of space in the city. Researchers highlight the way that caste divisions impact access to communal resources and housing, in the context of communal violence.en
