This report sets up possibilities for conversation between diverse case studies from three cities (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil; Durban, South Africa; and Mumbai, India) within a common theoretical framework. The term "socio-spatial justice" deals with the structure and social hierarchy in the urban (violent) condition. "Statemarket axis" refers to those who actively contribute to making the structure a reality, often positioned at the top of the social hierarchy. The research analyzes how spatial (in)justice and violence arise and play out over time, within the processes of socio-spatial transformations engineered by an alliance of the state and market forces.en
