Abstract

The goal of this scoping exercise was to identify key Asian partners and issues in promoting privacy protection in Asia. The state of regulatory protections (the jurisdiction and powers of the regulators) and legal protections (jurisprudence) was assessed, along with some strengths and weaknesses of existing law. The policy drivers for privacy law can be categorized into issues of constitutional, economic, international, and security sector provisions.
