Low levels of government investment in health means that the largest share of health spending in Pakistan (65%), is contributed by private financing, 99% of which is household out-of-pocket spending. Being sick does not automatically lead to seeking medical care however; in many countries, the poor who are sick are much less likely to obtain treatment than the rich. Pakistanis tend to identify themselves as sick only when illness is so serious that they cannot avoid seeking treatment. The main reasons for not using government facilities are lack of access and distance to government facilities, followed by lack or inadequate supply of medicines.en
