Current land use practices in Ethiopia are not based on land suitability evaluation. The livelihood of people of the Rasa Watershed is highly dependent on rain fed agriculture with limited availability of land. This detailed paper analyzes soil samples from the area to determine which crops may be beneficial to the local cultivation practices. Observed values of soil pH indicate the soils in the Watershed are acidic and classified as moderately suitable for the cultivation of faba bean, marginally suitable for chickpea – due to major limiting factors of nutrient availability, topography, temperature regime, moisture availability and frost hazard.en
