The paper aims to demonstrate the role of appreciative inquiry in initiating transformational processes for agri-food systems development in Kenya. Appreciative Inquiry (AI) is a research tool based on the premise that rural communities are endowed with assets and capabilities that can be turned into opportunities for improving their livelihoods. AI recognizes that communities are not necessarily characterised by challenges and weaknesses, whose problems require solving by outsiders. This study suggests that integrating AI into participatory research processes leads to better identification of community dynamics and resources, which can enhance food security.en
