The project will bring together scholars whose work focuses on the rise of the regulatory state in the Global South. This framing paper aims at integrating diverse perspectives, and is organised into three broad sections: the first explores the introduction of independent regulatory agencies (IRA) in infrastructure sectors such as electricity, water and telecommunications; the second focuses on the infrastructure sectors looking more broadly at other actors including courts, informal providers, and investors; the final section explores whether alternative theoretical starting points have the potential to capture the distinctiveness of regulatory state development in the Global South.en
