Using econometric modeling, the study assesses economic impacts of climate change on human health in Santiago, Chile where impacts are related to respiratory and cardiovascular diseases. Climate change will affect countries differently, depending on their developmental stage and geographic location; in developed countries, expected impacts are associated with increases in both heat-related and cardio-respiratory diseases, while in developing countries impacts will relate to waterborne diseases, infectious diseases (malaria), and malnutrition. Economic consequences are associated with: increasing costs of health systems, productivity reduction, and increases in mortality and morbidity, among others.en
