Mobile phones are perceived as an economic tool by mobile owners at the base of the economic pyramid (BOP). The biggest impact was perceived in reducing the need for travel. Strong social benefits (in terms of maintaining relationships) were also perceived; at the BOP, where social and work-related networks tend to overlap, these kinds of “social” benefits will have indirect economic impacts as well. The research presented in this brief is based on the findings of the fourth Teleuse@BOP study conducted in six Asian countries: India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Thailand and Sri Lankaen
