This paper focuses on legal aspects of creating massive open online courses (MOOCs), particularly on educator engagement with Open Educational Resources (OER) content. Legal openness draws on understanding and engaging with copyright; using legally open content; making content legally open in different ways; and on open licensing expertise and advice. An understanding of the legal mechanisms required to adapt content (including both creation and use) means understanding alternative forms of licensing including engagement with copyright. The MOOCs were produced in partnership with the Centre for Innovation in Learning and Teaching (CILT) at the University of Cape Town (UCT).en
