The project looks at the complexity of factors leading to violence and insecurity in cities, while also examining responses of dispossessed groups who address and confront violence. The term "socio-spatial justice" deals with the structure and social hierarchy in the urban (violent) condition. "Statemarket axis" refers to those who actively contribute to making the structure a reality, often positioned at the top of the social hierarchy and usually benefitting from their position. The paper analyzes the history of community action in each case study (Mumbai, Rio de Janeiro and Durban), organizing the information, identifying lessons learned and presenting linked research activities.en
