The main discussion at the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (CASS) was how to define the informal economy and informal employment, using data collected by the China and India Teams to answer questions such as What is the risk of poverty related to informality? Informality and poverty-reduction due to access to poverty reduction programs like the Public Distribution Scheme (PDS) in India were discussed. Another question that arose was How does one separate out the impact of trade shock related to economic crises or global recession, and of contract law enforcement, when periods of both coincide?en
