The Institute for Law and Environmental Governance (ILEG) is developing a training curriculum for Kenyan judges and magistrates on land and environment matters. Within the context of Kenya’s general elections 2013, ILEG’s work also helped to inform the choices that the judiciary made in preparation for outcome of those elections. Land and environment disputes constitute the larger portion of the claims that end up in the courts of law. The paper outlines its research and advocacy project towards a strong foundation for environmental jurisprudence in Kenya, including new land laws, extractive sector, and rights and obligations under the new Constitution.en
