Abstract

Given the often impossibility of those who endure war in verbally expressing the magnitude of their painful experiences – or the “speechless” character of such experiences, this project used an audiovisual approach which resulted in the production of a documentary film about women and war in Colombia. The teaching manual promotes discussion and analysis of the film. From different angles and by locating the documentary in the history of five decades of Colombian conflict and violence, it provides ways of tailoring discussions to a particular audience. Real dismantling of the paramilitary economic and political structures has not taken place, making the transition to peace nearly impossible to talk about.
