The HRHD Initiative aimed to support researchers, civil society organizations and policymakers to strengthen their understanding and application of human rights-based approaches to promote healthy diets through regulatory and fiscal interventions in Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda. The Initiative aimed to highlight knowledge gaps and implementation barriers, as well as opportunities and entry points to apply human rights-based approaches to promote healthy diets, identifying priority areas in research and policy where additional support is needed. The HRHD Initiative created a unique opportunity to bring government, civil society organizations and academia together, build networks and improve the understanding of the added value of a human rights-based approach to the development and implementation of food policies and thereby increase the chances that such an approach is adopted.en
