Abstract

The book examines how changes in population age structure are influencing national economies, and provides a systematic and comprehensive approach to measuring and analyzing economic flows from a generational perspective. It is essential to learn from societies that have been the first to experience the age transition, as in any given country changes in population age structure are occurring for the first time. Important features of the economic lifecycle are illustrated. The value of the results is in identifying important patterns that warrant further analysis. All National Transfer Account estimates have been subject to a rigorous review process that involved multiple reviewers.
