dc.description.abstractHow intellectual property (IP) rights help or hinder innovation and creativity in different contexts in Africa is the subject of this book. Based on case study research in nine African countries, the book examines recent history and current on-the-ground realities of innovation and IP in African settings. The book’s sister report, “Knowledge and Innovation in Africa: Scenarios for the Future,” situates realities covered in this book within a longer historical trajectory, alongside possible futures. Because of the immense geographic size of the African continent, ICTs have been instrumental in empowering the research networks’ ongoing “community of practice.”en
