The paper illustrates the effects of flooding with photos and excerpts from community participant interviews. The research aim is to provide data and a descriptive understanding of the flooding in one particular settlement that is badly affected: Graveyard Pond in the industrial area of Philippi, Cape Town. Graveyard Pond is one of the approximately 350 informal settlements in Cape Town. When it rains, in addition to water rising from below, the drains that are in the middle of the settlement overflow and seriously flood the area.en
