The report provides a detailed summary of project activities. In response to the uncertainty associated with the role of wild and migratory birds in the spread and re-emergence of the avian influenza (AI) virus, the IDRC is supporting the development of the Asia Partnership for Avian Influenza Research (APAIR), a regional network established to enhance the early detection and characterization of avian influenza infection. The role of wild birds in carrying and ultimately transmitting the H5N1 virus remains controversial.en
