Local strategies to fight violence and crime for inclusive urban governance in West Africa : workshop report summary
Abstract
Two situational factors contribute to urban crime and violence dynamics: presence and response capacity of public security officers, and housing. This raises issues of urban governance and unequal access to public services among the poor. The symposium aimed to create policy recommendations for developing an inclusive urban security action plan in West African municipalities, towards improving urban governance through provision of practical knowledge and evidence to effectively counter violence, inequality, and exclusion in urban communities.
