Abstract

This paper provides an overview of the Open Government Data (OGD) initiative in the City of Buenos Aires. Buenos Aires Data publishes datasets in digital reusable formats, around which other activities of the Office of Information and Open Government are created. In practice, OGD initiatives can seem closer to the ideas of the ‘smart cities’ label than to the principles of Open Government. While a city may offer new ways of access to the public services they deliver, it may also not be providing information and institutional channels for citizens and organizations to know how those services are funded and implemented.
