Rights and Development Under Siege: The Second Gender Profile of the oPt 1999-2007
Abstract
Ongoing sustained violent armed conflict, with economic collapse brought about through militarily imposed economic sanctions, was the constant background to this research. The focus of the Institute of Women’s Studies (IWS) attempts to address different aspects of the crisis context and its unfolding implications for gender and gender roles. Profound changes over a sustained period led to a multipronged challenge in terms of gender research. Extensive interviews were undertaken with NGOs, officials in key ministries of the Palestinian Authority and international donors. The final findings of the report were shaped by a collective discussion with 25 leading actors.
