Abstract
The aim of this conference (2011) was to take stock of what happened in the Middle East and North Africa (“Arab Spring” events), to look forward to what might happen next, and to reach conclusions and recommendations about what outsiders could best do to help. Syria was seen as presenting the greatest risk of large-scale violence, inevitably spilling over to its neighbours in one way or another, particularly Lebanon. The report infers that both Yemen and Syria could become major humanitarian crises.
