Second Science with Africa Conference : accessing technologies and information contained in patent documents to enhance innovative research in Tanzania
Abstract
The presentation reviews the status of Intellectual Property Rights regulation in Tanzania, as well as current patent law. The Agreement on Trade-Related Aspects of Intellectual Property Rights (TRIPs) is discussed, as well as the level of awareness on the TRIPS Agreement research exemption. The Tanzania Patent Act (Cap 217 R.E 2002) relates to use of patents for research purposes, which do not constitute infringement of the rights of the patentee.
