Fair financing in East and Southern Africa: community voice through radio and participatory communications; final report
Abstract
Radio programs on health issues were produced through the Regional Network for Equity in Health in east and southern Africa (EQUINET), via a participatory community process. In SAFM’s 'Workers on Wednesday' timeslot, the show entitled ‘Healthcare financing: The state of healthcare and the working class’ was broadcast, focusing on proposed National Health Insurance. Other radio stations and programs were coordinated around this topic. The report covers initiatives and processes to give voice to the disempowered. The Monkey Bay (Malawi) project had a transformative impact on orphans and vulnerable children, as well impacting those who work with and for them.
