Item Open Access Item Open Access Item Open Access Unnoticed ones : political participation of Chin women in Myanmar Spring revolution(2024) MawiteBetween November and December of 2023, the Institute of Chin Affairs Inc. (ICA) carried out a study to look at the role that Chin women played in participating in politics during the Spring Revolution since February 2021. This study highlights the difficulties they encountered in their community and the contributions made by Chin women to public life and political engagement during this crucial time. While Chin women played a key role in the Spring Revolution, their current influence is limited due to low representation and traditional attitudes. The study aims to provide valuable insights for policymakers and activists interested in promoting gender equality and inclusivity in political participation as well as serve as a resource for further research on gender and politics in Myanmar.Item Open Access Data for inclusive, democratic, and feminist development : shaping the global research agenda(2024-04) Walker, StephenItem Open Access Special needs of women workers in the garment sector of Myanmar : analyzing labor policies through critical realist lens(2024-04) Hlaing, Cho ChoThe garment sector, a gendered economy which experienced rapid growth after the state-led economic reform, is often seen as an opportunity for women to earn an economic position by shifting from subsistence to wage labor. This qualitative documentary analysis indicates that conflicts led to the maldistribution of resources caused by the closures of schools and examination centres and to cultural injustices arising from standardising the Burmese language and rigid citizenship requirements in education. The disparity of representation in university admission policy emanates from these conflicts, while the peace-building perspective of admission is often overlooked. This study recommends incorporating four crucial dimensions, namely redistribution, recognition, representation, and reconciliation, into the university admission policy in post-conflict Myanmar to promote transformative social change.Item Open Access How to ensure that a federal system upholds women's rights(2023-06-23) GenderlabThis issue of the Genderlab Talk Series focuses on gender equality and federalism in Myanmar and how gender equality can be incorporated into federal democracy institutions.Item Open Access How can federal constitution guarantee gender equality(2024-04) GenderlabThis issue of the Genderlab Talk Series highlights how in order to advance gender equality in Myanmar both federalism, and a strong constitution that protects the fundamental human rights of its people and guarantees efficient accountability and transparency of the governing body, are needed.Item Open Access What does federalism have to do with gender equality(2023-05-11) GenderlabThis issue of the Genderlab Talk Series highlights how in order to advance gender equality in Myanmar both federalism, and a strong constitution that protects the fundamental human rights of its people and guarantees efficient accountability and transparency of the governing body, are needed.Item Open Access Rapid response mechanisms : supporting resolution of community-investor conflicts related to land-based investments(International Institute for Environment and Development (UK), 2024) Knight, Rachael; Nguiffo, Samuel; Kobusingya, Doreen; Teresa, Eilu; Ekeocha, NnaemekaThis toolkit is an output of a multi-year project, “Preventive legal empowerment: Early alert and action to strengthen rights in the context of land-based investments,” funded by Canada’s International Development Research Centre.
