It uses an innovative approach to value chain analysis, the three step Value Chain Analysis for Resilience in Drylands (VC-ARID). Research results provide adaptation options such as investment in processing (modernization of slaughter facilities, cooling system, proper drainage system, environmental management) and feedlot availability at slaughter. More than 80% of the beef consumed in Kenya is produced by pastoralists, either domestically or in neighbouring countries. Local livestock markets dominated by brokers undervalue the weight of animals and set low prices unfair to producers.Item Adaptation policy and practice in densely populated glacier-fed river basins of South Asia : a systematic review(Springer, 2015) Sud, Ridhima; Mishra, Arabinda; Varma, Navarun; Bhadwal, SuruchiRivers are the cultural, social and economic backbone of South Asia. Himalayan glaciers provide source water for Asian river systems, irrigating millions of hectares of fields, and supporting close to a billion people who live in their catchments. This paper reviews literature for three major glacier-fed river systems of South Asia—Brahmaputra, Ganga and Indus—to understand governance mechanisms for climate adaptation in the region. Policy ambiguity at the national level in Afghanistan, Bhutan, Nepal and Pakistan raises questions about the capacity of the region to operationalize principles of adaptive governance. Better seasonal climate information and flood risk maps are essential.Item Adaptation to climate change and local development : a proposal for addressing the urgent need(2019) Leclerc, Grégoire; Solís-Rosas, Mariela Morales; Bianchi, Paula; Wild, Patricia; Fossati, Felipe; Hola Studio Creative; Gonda, Catalina; Gorfinkiel, Denise; Jacobi, Pedro; Ellinger, PaulaAdaptive local development (ALD) promotes sustainable development integrated with risk management, socio-ecological resilience and adaptation to climate change. This policy brief identifies key roles that are part of the adaptation process from local to international levels, along with enabling conditions in the interrelated phases of policy, local development and adaptation processes. “Local development” is a territorial construction which aims to promote growth in all aspects, alongside different attributes that can be regulatory, infrastructure, organizational, financial, and most importantly, empowered human resources. A decision-making culture based on scientific evidence is an essential and cross-cutting part of ALD policies, strategies and actions.Item AdaptCoop : renforcement de la résilience des coopératives cacaoyères face aux changements climatiques en Côte d’Ivoire(2023-02-27) Brunelle, Renée; Okou, Alla Kouadio; Chérif, Mamadou; Koné, Daouda; Larrivée, CarolineItem Africa climate change leadership program : final technical report(2020-12-14) Waema, Timothy Mwololo; Njue, MercyThe program aims to strengthen the capacity of national and regional mid-career to senior climate change policy advisors/analysts to understand how to interpret and apply climate model projections, and to inject the best available scientific research/empirical knowledge/data into policy processes and decision-making.
