Item Outcome document from the meeting Making the Invisible Visible : CRVS as a basis to meeting the 2030 Gender Agenda(2018-02-26)This document provides a summary of the meeting convened by the Centre of Excellence for Civil Registration and Vital Statistics (CRVS) Systems at the International Development Research Centre (IDRC, 2018). Its goal was to inspire a global commitment to better integrate gender issues in CRVS systems. CRVS systems are beneficial to women and girls. Vital statistics provide sex-disaggregated demographic data on key issues such as population distribution and maternal mortality; and civil registration ensures that women and girls can prove their own identities in order to access crucial public services such as health, education, social protection and political representation.Item Harnessing the power : CRVS systems for 2030 global agendas(2018-02-28) Centre of Excellence for CRVS SystemsThis report summarizes key findings, outcomes, panel sessions, important links and recommendations from the global conference (2018) on innovations in Civil Registration and Vital Statistics (CRVS) systems. Health and national identity (ID) systems when integrated with CRVS, are powerful drivers for more inclusive economies and a broad range of future development benefits, producing critical measurement data for many population-based indicators and targets. In conjunction with other systems, CRVS systems create a foundation for country administration, building the backbone of inclusive development through improved citizen participation and access to services such as healthcare.Item Exploiter la puissance des systèmes d’en registrement et de statistiques de l’état civil pour réaliser l’agenda 2030(2018-02-28) Centre d'excellence pour les systèmes d'enregistrement civil et de statistique vital (CRVS)Item Compendio de buenas prácticas para vincular los sistemas de gestión de Registro Civil y Estadísticas Vitales (CRVS) y de identidad(Centro de Excelencia para los sistemas de Registro Civil y Estadísticas Vitales, 2019) Đoković, Zoran; Dincu, Irina; Slotin, JennaItem Les réfugiés sans documents de l’état civil ou documents d’identité sont plus vulnérables : que pouvons-nous faire pour les aider?(2019) Centre of Excellence for CRVS Systems / Le Centre d’excellence sur les systèmes ESECItem Aperçu des systèmes d’enregistrement et de statistiques de l’état civil en Tanzanie continentale(Centre d’excellence sur les systèmes d’enregistrement et de statistiques de l’état civil, 2019) Zewoldi, YacobItem Snapshot of civil registration and vital statistics systems of Kenya(Centre of Excellence for Civil Registration and Vital Statistics (CRVS) Systems, 2019) Zewoldi, YacobThe Ministry of Interior and Coordination of National Government is responsible for civil registration in Kenya. A large backlog, along with delayed registrations of births and deaths is attributed to the lack of demand for services and the lack of easy access to registration centres, especially in rural areas. The Kenya National Bureau of Statistics (KNBS) has the legal mandate for the collection, compilation, analysis, publication and dissemination of “vital occurrences and morbidity” and the co-ordination of the national statistical system. Coordination and collaboration among key stakeholders are a necessary condition for the improvement of CRVS systems. Mayors can also delegate registration activity to one of the councillors or municipal agents. Thus, there are about 1520 local registrars in communes and rural districts (communautés rurales) of Senegal. Concerning national identification managed by the Ministry of the Interior, a unique national identification number exists for each person and is used on national identity cards, driving licenses, insurance and passport purposes. However, the unique identification number is not linked to the civil registration system. Cause of death information is not collected through the vital events registration system.Item Snapshot of civil registration and vital statistics systems of Sierra Leone(Centre of Excellence for Civil Registration and Vital Statistics Systems, 2019) Zewoldi, YacobNational Identification and the Civil Registration Systems are linked through unique individual numbers. Sierra Leone is in the process of building an Integrated National Civil Registration System, whereby different databases would be linked through the National Identification Number issued by the National Civil Registration Authority (NCRA). Plans are on course to adopt the use of mobile and other appropriate technology to enhance notification and data transmission of vital events. Quarterly civil registration and vital statistics (CRVS) Steering Committee meetings are recommended, with heads of agencies (both development partners and government line functionaries) in attendance.Item Breve resumo do sistema de registo civil e estatísticas vitais de Moçambique(Centro de Excelencia para los sistemas de Registro Civil y Estadísticas Vitales, 2019) Zewoldi, YacobItem Aperçu des systèmes d’enregistrement et de statistiques de l’état civil en Éthiopie(Centre d’excellence sur les systèmes d’enregistrement et de statistiques de l’état civil (ESEC), 2019) Zewoldi, YacobItem Strengthening CRVS systems, overcoming barriers and empowering women and children(Centre of Excellence for Civil Registration and Vital Statistics (CRVS) Systems, 2019) Silva, Romesh; Snow, Rachel; Andreev, Dorina; Mitra, Raj; AbouZahr, CarlaThe case studies presented in this paper address the importance of civil registration and vital statistics (CRVS) systems and their impacts on the visibility and legal rights of women in China and Morocco, as well as Syrian refugee women.
