Early marriage and pregnancy are common and constitute a barrier to women’s economic empowerment. The Financial Inclusion RoadMap can play an important part in advancing progress, if implemented fully. The RoadMap however makes little mention of women’s financial inclusion. The banking sector is heavily concentrated in the capital city, Kinshasa. There is widespread distrust of the banks, due to the restructuring conducted in the early part of the century.
