This will require development of financial products, such as savings, micro-insurance, money transfers and agricultural lending. This paper attempts to identify and analyze the effects of the introduction of the open source management information system (MIS) Mifos on employees, managers and clients associated with two microfinance institutions (MFIs). For MFIs in East Africa, the selection and implementation of an appropriate and affordable MIS will be key.
