Fluorosis is caused by overexposure to fluoride with moderate amounts leading to dental effects, but long-term ingestion can lead to potentially painful and severe skeletal problems. In Yuanmou County in Yunnan Province, the combined effects of high evaporation caused by hot weather, largescale vegetable planting, and high fluoride concentrations reduce the amount of safe water available for local consumption, which affects people’s health.
