This paper aims to facilitate a clearer understanding of the merits of different research for development (R4D) models and approaches as they relate to influencing policy and practice. A brief scan of the R4D landscape is presented, drawn from five cases of donors, foundations and programmes, selected in consultation with IDRC to illustrate possible strategic options. Amongst the organisations and programmes reviewed, there has been a gradual movement towards developing strategic partnerships, networks, communities of practice, and working in a transdisciplinary way.application/pdfenRESEARCH FOR DEVELOPMENTDEVELOPING COUNTRIESCAPACITY DEVELOPMENTCASE STUDIESBASIC RESEARCHLEADERSHIP OF RESEARCHRESEARCH FOR DEVELOPMENTDEVELOPMENT AIDR4DRESEARCH PROGRAMMESRESEARCH ORGANIZATIONSRESEARCH PARTNERSHIPSCANADANORTH AND CENTRAL AMERICAGLOBAL SOUTHNORTH-SOUTH COOPERATIONScan of research for development models and approaches : analysis of five donors and programmes, with a focus on policy influenceWorking Paper
