The approach enabled the investigation of differentiated impacts on: water availability-scarcity; anthropogenic-ecosystem water requirements; vulnerable groups; droughts, and the contribution of ecosystem services. Research included climate downscaling, vegetation modelling, environmental health, and livelihood impacts. Affecting all of these is the hydrological functioning of catchments.
