There is a delicate equilibrium between mutual and capitalist ownership, the two predominant forms of ownership, with shifts in both directions occurring continuously. The first four papers are mainly theoretical; the next four are contextual studies of agency problems and efficiency in financial cooperatives in some of the countries that participated in the "Microfinance: A Market Approach" research program. The final paper deals with the measurement of the impact of MFIs on household poverty levels.Text1 digital file (236 p. : ill.)application/pdfenECONOMIC AND SOCIAL DEVELOPMENTMICROECONOMICSINTERNATIONAL COOPERATIONEFFICIENCYGOVERNANCEBANKSCREDIT COOPERATIVESWOMENPOVERTYRURAL AREASDEVELOPING COUNTRIESGERMANYSOUTH AMERICAAFRICAPHILIPPINESCanadian journal of development studies, v. 29, no. 1-2, 2009, special issue : microfinance; efficiency & governance in an international perspectiveRevue canadienne d'études du développement, v. 29, no. 1-2, 2009, numéro spécial : microfinance; perspectives internationales sur l'efficience et la gouvernanceMicrofinance : efficiency & governance in an international perspectiveMicrofinance : perspectives internationales sur l'efficience et la gouvernanceJournal (Full)
