The urban planning aspects of the host city of Vancouver were cause for inspiration. Environmental degradation in Jakarta’s slums, caused by a high-density population with too few basic services and infrastructure, dominated the thoughts of Craig Redmond, Mercy Corps’ country director in Jakarta.
