It was actually the preparatory part of the Third Nation Wide Nutrition Survey and was implemented from March 1991 to May 1993. Now the project has been successfully completed. Within the project period, all the activities were successfully carried out according to the project schedule, e.g. the advisory group was set up; two preparatory meetings were conducted; the trial survey provided valuable experiences; 208 survey staff from 30 provinces, autonomous regions, and municipalities were trained; two foreign experts were invited to serve as the consultants for the project design and both of them made valuable contributions; and one staff from INFH was trained abroad on qualitative methodologies. All these preparatory activities have made very important and valuable contributions to success of the Third Nation Wide Nutrition Survey. This survey collect a great amount of qualitative and quantitative information about diet, anthropometry, social and cultural aspects of Chinese population.
