The paper provides a definition of fundamental criteria of research excellence in relation to the parameters of North-South collaboration; three modes of research effectiveness derived from three research projects, and a review of some difficulties and challenges. All three of the projects incorporated an ethos of social inclusion and democratic practice, and included youth participants.Text1 digital file (13 p. : ill.)Application/pdfenNORTH-SOUTH RELATIONSCOLLABORATIVE LEARNINGRESEARCH EXCELLENCEPARTICIPATORY ACTION RESEARCHYOUTH ENGAGEMENTEDUCATIONAL RESEARCHSOUTH-SOUTH COOPERATIONSENEGALNICARAGUAEL SALVADORCANADASIERRA LEONEGLOBAL SOUTHCHILD SOLDIERSStriving for excellence in collaborative research in North-South contexts : a reflection paper for the IDRC / Coady 2013 Canadian Learning ForumSynthesis Report
