Kramer, Berber2020-08-182020-08-182020-08http://hdl.handle.net/10625/59395The presentation covers challenges in scaling up agricultural insurance. It proposes development of novel climate-smart crop insurance contracts and tools. “Picture-based” insurance would integrate data from farmer produced cell-phone imagery of crops, combined with satellite weather data, and cell-phone documented crop health, growth stages, and management. This information could be processed in a useable way to predict crop yields and losses, and ultimately, insurance contracts for smallholder farmers. The project anticipates reaching 45,000 smallholder farmers in six Kenyan counties with an enhanced replanting guarantee schemeapplication/pdfenCLIMATE SMART AGRICULTUREAGRICULTURAL PRODUCTIVITYSMALLHOLDERSWEATHER FORECASTSINSURANCECROP INSURANCEKENYASOUTH OF SAHARAImproving agricultural productivity and resilience with satellite and cellphone imagery to scale climate-smart crop insurancePresentation
