Etta, F.E.2007-11-132003-01-302007-11-132000http://hdl.handle.net/10625/32882The main objective of the study is provision of a conceptual approach to complementary non-formal education. Utilizing a combination of rapid appraisal research based on site visits and secondary sources, the study challenges the prejudices and biases that have plagued discussions and provisions of non-formal education. An Alternative Educational System (AES) is proposed as one way to solve the education nightmare. A survey of the non-formal educational activities of non-governmental organisations (NGOs) in four Sahelian countries (Burkina Faso, Mali, Niger and Senegal) is presented along with proposal for an alternative education delivery system. Particularly disadvantaged are girls, women, rural dwellers, minorities, the poor and the disabled.87 p.enNON-FORMAL EDUCATIONCOLONIALISMINFORMAL EDUCATIONEDUCATIONAL PLANNINGALTERNATIVE EDUCATIONSAHELAID DONORSPOVERTY ALLEVIATIONVULNERABLE GROUPSBURKINA FASOEDUCATIONAL FINANCINGMALINIGERSENEGALSOUTH OF SAHARAComplementary non - formal education in the Sahel : an alternative education systemIDRC-Related Report
