It is seen to create a stabilizing presence in promoting leadership structures and social capital, and as well, of providing ‘livelihood support’ to community members. The CWP successfully introduced ‘Safe Manenberg’ campaigns such as a safety patrol on school premises to ensure that learners get to and from school safely. However, much gang-related violence continues. An integrated approach to development would require further investment in the CWP in order to strengthen the process of building social cohesion and social justice.application/pdfenSOUTH AFRICA--MANENBERGSOCIAL PARTICIPATIONCOMMUNITY DEVELOPMENTUNEMPLOYMENTGANGSTOWNSHIPSPEACEBUILDINGCRIME PREVENTIONPOVERTY ALLEVIATIONBuilding a good nation in Manenberg : a case study of the Manenberg Community Work Programme (CWP)Synthesis Report
