Stakeholder consultation on secondary plan development for the South Basin Lake Manitoba Planning area

Abstract

Thousands of migrating birds and wildlife live in the Delta Marsh ecosystem, one of the largest wetlands in North America. The paper provides a look into a planning process event for guiding development in the South Basin Area of Lake Manitoba. Eight policies forming the main topic for discussion were presented. Policies and the wording of policies concerning wetland areas were considered. These involved agricultural land, flooding due to high lake levels, recreational uses, erosion, wildlife habitat, residential development, alternative energy and zoning. Many more people than expected came to the consultation, a clear indication of the level of interest and concern.
