The project looked at economic and welfare effects of preferential trading agreements (PTA) in Asia. It generated policy guidelines for policymakers and negotiators in the region, and more broadly for the multilateral trading system. The East Asian Community (EAC) can become a harbinger of the Asian Economic Community (AEC) as envisioned by India. An Association of Southeast Asian Nations ASEAN+4 trade bloc can potentially create three times the actual trade between India and ASEAN+3 members: China, Japan and Korea.en
